Throws (or takedowns) accrue 1 to 5 technical points. A takedown of "grand amplitude" gets you 5. That's when, for example, a wrestler thrusts his opponent into the air above the mat, landing him in a back-exposed "danger position" in which he can be pinned. Many points revolve around forcing an opponent into that position. Forcing an opponent to the ground on three support points - say, two hands and a knee - will earn 1 point. Points are never deducted, but an illegal act such as a choke-hold can give the fouled opponent an additional point. A warning often comes first, though, with the guilty athlete ordered into the "par terre" position.
