The Olympic Torch Hits the Slopes

Sunday February 5, 2006
Marla Gully of Bella Baita Bed and Breakfast located at the confluence of the Chisone and Germanasca valleys in Olympics territory, writes to tell us of the Olympic torch passing through:
It was an exciting time tonight when the flame arrived on horseback carried by Italy and Pinerolo's own 3 medal equestrian winner from the Atlanta games . A fitting arrival as Pinerolo is known as the birthplace of Italy's Calvary. It was an emotional moment for everyone. The crowds in the market place piazza and the surrounding run up into town were estimated at 50,000. Tomorrow the flame continues up our Val Chisone making a stop in Villar Perosa birthplace of the Agnelli family Fiat dynasty. It is due to take a lap around the Agnelli family church and final resting place of Gianni Agnelli who brought the games to Torino and who passed away 3 years ago. It will pass thru Pinasca and on up to Pragelato and finally to the top of our valley Sestriere, the Agnelli family built ski resort. The anticipation builds.......
